Tehran: President Masoud Pezeshkian says he has instructed Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to pave the way for fair and equitable negotiations with the United States within the framework of national interests.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Pezeshkian wrote on his X account that his decision came after requests from friendly governments in the region to respond to the proposal by the President of the United States for negotiations. He emphasized that he had instructed Minister of Foreign Affairs Abbas Araghchi to pursue negotiations in a suitable environment, free from threats and unreasonable expectations, guided by the principles of dignity, prudence, and expediency.

On Tuesday, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, during his weekly press briefing, confirmed that Iran is currently reviewing various aspects of efforts to resume indirect negotiations with the United States. Esmaeil Baqaei stated that high-level contacts between Iran and various states, especially neighbors, are aimed at maintaining a serious and responsible approach to safeguard national interests and regional stability, despite recent destabilizing actions by the United States and the Israeli regime.

The US has yet to officially acknowledge the talks with Iran. However, President Trump recently pledged to engage the Islamic Republic in negotiations after threatening the country with military actions. 'We have talks going on with Iran, we'll see how it all works out,' Trump told reporters at the White House on Monday. He further added, 'I'd like to see a deal negotiated. Right now, we're talking to them, we're talking to Iran, and if we could work something out, that'd be great.'
