Iran Seeks Reparations from Gulf States for Alleged War Involvement

Tehran: Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, has issued a demand for compensation from five regional countries, citing damages incurred during a conflict imposed by the United States and Israel against Iran.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Iravani addressed the UN Secretary-General and the UN Security Council President, asserting that Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan have breached international obligations owed to Iran under international law. The ambassador called for full reparation, including compensation for material and moral damages resulting from what Iran perceives as internationally wrongful acts.

In his formal communication, Iravani referenced specific letters from the aforementioned countries addressed to the UN Security Council, challenging the claims and evidence presented by Iran. He emphasized that Iran has provided the Security Council with documented evidence of the use of these countries' territories by aggressors and, in some cases, their direct involvement in unlawful armed attacks targeting civilian objects in Iran. This evidence, Iravani noted, is based on assessments conducted by Iran's armed forces.

Iravani further criticized Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026) as unjust and legally untenable, arguing it is disconnected from the factual and legal realities of the situation. He reiterated that Iran was subjected to aggression by the United States and Israel on February 28, 2026, which violated international law and the UN Charter. The ambassador insisted that the involvement of the five countries constitutes an act of aggression, thereby invalidating any lawful invocation of Article 51 of the UN Charter by these states.

Iran contends that the continued use of these states' territories by aggressors against Iran, along with direct attacks, breaches their international obligations. Consequently, Iran demands that these countries stop their wrongful acts and provide full reparations for the damages sustained.
