Tehran: Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has announced that Iran is prepared to collaborate on its nuclear energy program if the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) adopts a cooperative approach. He emphasized that Iran would take new actions if the IAEA's Board of Governors issues a resolution against the country. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi made these remarks on Saturday during an interview on Iranian state TV, where he addressed a range of topics from Iran's nuclear program to its policies concerning developments in West Asia. He reiterated that Iran's engagement with the IAEA remains strictly professional, highlighting the agency's role as a technical body that should not delve into political matters. Araghchi mentioned that Iran's stance was communicated to IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi during his recent visit to Iran. He confirmed that Iran remains committed to its obligations under the IAEA and the nuclear non-proliferation treaty known as NPT, despite suspen ding commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in response to the US withdrawal and Europe's failure to compensate. He also stated that while Iran is open to discussions regarding the JCPOA, negotiations with Europe could commence soon. In another segment of the interview, Araghchi addressed reports of a meeting between Iran's UN ambassador and Elon Musk, categorically denying such an encounter. He explained that Iran delayed refuting these claims as they were deemed unworthy of a response and potentially aimed at generating media hype against Iran. Concerning relations with the United States, Araghchi mentioned that Iran is awaiting the formation of the new American administration and its policy announcements. He stressed that Iran's policies are crafted based on its interests, goals, and ideals, and the country's response to the new US administration will depend on its policies. He noted the current selections for the US administration appear extreme in thei r support for Israel. Araghchi also discussed his recent regional tours amid rising tensions with Israel, stating that he informed regional leaders of Israel's attempts to escalate conflicts in the region and stressed the need for collective efforts to counteract these moves. He reported that his discussions with regional leaders were positively received.
