Iran Stresses Realistic Approach Towards U.S. in Foreign Policy

Tehran: Iran has reiterated its stance on dealing with the United States, emphasizing a realistic approach in its foreign policy. The sentiment reflects longstanding tensions, with Iran acknowledging the necessity of potential negotiations if they serve national interests.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Iranian leadership has consistently portrayed the United States as a significant adversary. The Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has warned against being swayed by diplomatic formalities, labeling them as masks for underlying hostility. Despite these views, he acknowledges that negotiations remain a tool Iran could utilize if it aligns with their strategic goals.

Iran’s Vice-President for Strategic Affairs, Javad Zarif, has previously been at the forefront of negotiations with the U.S. Zarif’s stance reflects a pragmatic approach; while recognizing the U.S. as a ‘nuisance,’ he also views dialogue as a potential means to mitigate American influence. This balance of resistance and negotiation underscores Iran’s broader strategy of countering American pressures.

The Iranian government has a track record of resisting U.S. influence through various means, including military actions and economic resilience. Yet, they remain open to diplomatic avenues, reflecting a nuanced strategy that combines defiance with pragmatic diplomacy to safeguard national interests.
