Tehran: Iran and the United States have concluded the first round of high-level talks in Switzerland, agreeing on a 60-day roadmap toward a final agreement and establishing mechanisms to advance technical negotiations under the Islamabad memorandum of understanding (MoU).

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, a joint statement issued by mediators Qatar and Pakistan detailed that the talks were held at the Burgenstock resort in Switzerland with participation from representatives of Iran, the United States, and the two mediating countries. The discussions, which took place near Lake Lucerne, were described as positive and constructive, leading to promising progress, including the establishment of a mechanism to continue technical negotiations.

Under the MoU, the parties agreed to create a high committee tasked with providing political oversight of the mediation process. Senior negotiators will report regularly to this committee, supervising working groups focused on nuclear issues, sanctions, and a monitoring and dispute-resolution mechanism to ensure effective implementation and address other issues.

The mediators stated that the High Committee had agreed on a roadmap to reach a final agreement within 60 days, facilitating the immediate launch of further technical talks. Additionally, a communication channel has been established between the parties for the period specified in Article 5 of the memorandum to prevent incidents and misunderstandings, ensuring the safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.

The statement also announced the creation of a Conflict Control Unit, involving the parties and Lebanon, facilitated by the mediators, to ensure adherence to the halt of military operations in Lebanon in accordance with the memorandum's provisions. Technical discussions on all issues will continue at the Burgenstock complex through the end of the week.

Qatar and Pakistan affirmed their commitment to ensuring the negotiations proceed in a constructive environment, aiming for a final agreement. The mediators expressed appreciation for Iran and the United States' commitment to diplomacy and peaceful conflict resolution and thanked their partners and allies for supporting the ongoing process.
