Tehran:According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Iran's trade with Uzbekistan reached approximately $280 million in the first five months of the current Iranian year, which began on March 21. Key areas identified for expanding these economic ties include agricultural exports, technology cooperation, and joint investments.

Rahmatollah Khormali, Iran's commercial attach© in Uzbekistan, stated that despite regional conditions affecting Iran's commercial activities, the two countries have maintained their trade volume. Agriculture remains a priority, with a 120-member Iranian delegation led by the agriculture minister recently visiting Uzbekistan. This delegation comprised experts and private-sector representatives in various industries such as farming, aquaculture, machinery, and food processing.

Khormali described Uzbekistan as a significant trading partner, being one of Central Asia's most populous nations and Iran's second-largest export destination among Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) members. Iran exports a variety of products to Uzbekistan, including citrus fruits, apples, kiwis, pistachios, dates, dairy products, milk powder, and fish feed, with possibilities for further diversification.

The attach© also emphasized technological cooperation, highlighting that Iranian companies are currently executing around 30 projects in Uzbekistan, valued at $770 million, including those in agriculture. He mentioned that continued exchanges between business delegations and increased interaction between officials and economic operators could further enhance bilateral trade. Food security was also noted as a promising area for specialized cooperation.
