Iran Vows Maximum Resistance Against External Pressures, Says Foreign Ministry

Tehran: Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmail Baghaei, has declared that the nation remains steadfast in defending its national interests and security, asserting that Iran will respond to any threats or pressures with maximum resistance. This statement comes amidst rising tensions and recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Iran's nuclear activities.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baghaei addressed Trump's allegations about Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons, labeling them unfounded and consistently disproven. He emphasized that Iran's nuclear program is under the strict supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency, adhering to the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons treaty. He contrasted Iran's stance with that of Israel, which has openly threatened the use of nuclear weapons in conflicts such as the one against Gaza.

Baghaei further conveyed that Iran's opposition to weapons of mass destruction is deeply rooted in its Islamic values and supported by a fatwa from Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution. This religious ruling underscores Iran's commitment to opposing such weapons.

In addition to addressing nuclear allegations, Baghaei dismissed claims of Iran's supposed attempts to assassinate U.S. officials. He asserted that Iran is committed to pursuing legal channels for justice concerning the assassination of national figures like Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, who was killed on January 3, 2020, following an order from then-President Trump.

The backdrop of these assertions is President Trump's recent signing of an executive order aimed at reinstating a 'maximum pressure' campaign against Iran. Trump stated his reluctance in taking this step, expressing a desire for diplomatic engagement while acknowledging the necessity of adopting a firm stance. The signing took place shortly before a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, highlighting the geopolitical complexities surrounding the issue.
