Tehran: Mehdi Tabatabaei, deputy for communications affairs at the Iranian president's office, stated that the Islamic Republic remains committed to the Islamabad memorandum of understanding but will respond according to circumstances if the other side fails to honor it.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Tabatabaei described the 14-point memorandum as an unprecedented and significant achievement in Iran's recent history, arguing that it preserves the country's national interests and rights. He emphasized that Iran has demonstrated its commitment to the agreement and has not violated its commitments. The official noted that while the memorandum is a vital document, it is not untouchable and can be reviewed when necessary.

Tabatabaei explained that the government views the understanding as beneficial to Iran, the region, and the Muslim world. However, he warned that Tehran would remain committed to it only if the other side returned to its obligations. He stated, "If the other side does not return to the memorandum, we will respond in accordance with the circumstances."

He also urged a realistic assessment of Iran's circumstances, cautioning against excessive expectations. Tabatabaei highlighted Iran's resilience and national strength, noting that the country had endured two wars. Additionally, he praised President Masoud Pezeshkian, describing him as a practical leader who values public trust and honesty as essential to his administration.
