New york: Iranian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, has formally alerted the global body and its Security Council member states about what he describes as a 'neither isolated nor rhetorical' threat from Israel targeting the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, in a letter issued on Wednesday, Iravani highlighted the urgency of the situation, drawing attention to a public declaration by Israel Katz, the Israeli war minister, who reportedly marked Ayatollah Khamenei as 'marked for death.' Iravani emphasized that this threat forms part of a systematic policy of State-sponsored terrorism by Israel, specifically targeting high-ranking Iranian officials, within the broader context of Israel's aggressive actions against Iran.

The letter from Iravani is part of a larger discussion on advancing political solutions in the Middle East, focusing on mediation and dialogue, as detailed in his address before the United Nations Security Council. Iravani underscored the need for the Security Council to address the root causes of conflict in the Middle East, including the occupation of Palestinian, Lebanese, and Syrian territories, and acts of aggression by Israel and the prolonged military presence of the United States in the region.

Iravani argued that lasting peace and stability in the Middle East require an end to occupation and aggression, respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, and accountability for acts of aggression. He asserted that external interference has historically hindered genuine peace efforts in the region.

Iran's stance, as conveyed in the letter, remains firm on defending its sovereignty and exercising its right to self-defense in response to any acts of aggression. The letter further criticizes the United States and Israel for allegedly violating a comprehensive ceasefire and reiterated Iran's resilience against threats and intimidation.

The Iranian representative's address calls for dialogue and cooperation among Middle Eastern countries, free from external interference, as the only viable path to sustainable peace and security.
