Iranian Ambassador Stresses Importance of Consultations for Iran-Armenia Relations

Tehran:Iran's Ambassador to Armenia, Khalil Shirgholami, has emphasized the necessity for ongoing consultations between Tehran and Yerevan to define future collaboration and strengthen bilateral relations, which he described as strategic.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Ambassador Shirgholami spoke with Armenia's Sputnik news agency, labeling the recent visit of Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan to Tehran as successful. He noted that the visit offered a suitable opportunity to discuss political, economic, and cultural cooperation.

The ambassador's comments were in response to inquiries regarding a phone conversation between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Mirzoyan, which occurred three days after the Armenian foreign minister's visit to Iran.

Shirgholami also mentioned a meeting between President Masoud Pezeshkian and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) summit in Ashgabat, where both leaders discussed future cooperation prospects.

He highlighted that regular contacts between officials allow for the exchange of views and coordination on various matters, asserting that continuous consultations are a natural aspect of bilateral relations. Shirgholami emphasized that sometimes issues require discussion more than once in a single day.

Additionally, the ambassador underlined his frequent communications with Armenian counterparts, noting that these interactions can occur multiple times daily. He stressed that sustained dialogue is crucial for strengthening relations and establishing a roadmap for future cooperation between Iran and Armenia.
