Iranian Embassy Refutes Allegations of Border Violations by Iraqi PM’s Advisor

Baghdad:The Iranian Embassy in Baghdad has dismissed allegations made by an aide to the Iraqi Prime Minister, Ali al-Zaidi, concerning activities at the Al-Shib border crossing between Iran and Iraq.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the Iranian diplomatic mission issued a statement on Saturday rejecting the accusations made by Abdul Amir Taiban. Taiban had recently accused Iran of committing significant violations against Iraq, claiming that the border crossing was being used for the smuggling of narcotics and counterfeit currency.

The statement from the Iranian Embassy called upon relevant Iraqi authorities to address these allegations, which it described as harmful to the bilateral relations between the two nations. The Embassy emphasized the need for a stance on the part of Iraq regarding these claims.

Last Wednesday, Taiban accused Iran of actions that he claimed undermined Iraq's security, damaged its economy, and involved the smuggling of narcotics and counterfeit currency. However, he did not provide any evidence to support these claims. The accusations come at a time when the relationship between Tehran and Baghdad, particularly concerning their border and economic cooperation, is of strategic importance.
