Berlin:Iran's ambassador to Germany has criticized Western governments for remaining silent over the US-Israeli military aggression against Iran, while now expressing concern about the economic consequences of the same aggression for their own countries.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Majid Nili made these remarks in a message, stating that the countries which failed to condemn the military attack on Iran are now worried about its economic repercussions. Nili highlighted that those who previously remained silent or took irresponsible positions are today troubled by the economic consequences affecting their own nations.
Nili also referenced a German proverb, 'Man soll den Tag nicht vor dem Abend loben,' which translates to 'Do not praise the day before evening,' to emphasize the premature nature of the European response. The economic repercussions, particularly in energy markets, are increasingly pressuring European economies.
Germany's Federal Statistical Office reported a 12.2% rise in energy prices in October compared to the same month last year. Eurostat data indicated that eurozone inflation reached 3.8% in September, with energy prices surging by 18.9% year-on-year, making it the largest contributor to the bloc's annual inflation. Euronews also noted that the European benchmark natural gas price had exceeded 100 euros per megawatt-hour for the first time since 2022, compared to around 32 euros before the aggression against Iran.
The US-Israeli military actions have disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical energy transit route, causing volatility in global energy markets and raising concerns over the security of oil and gas supplies.
