New York:Iran's Ambassador to the United Nations, Gholamhossein Darzi, has described the recent threats made by U.S. President Donald Trump to 'annihilate' Iran as grave and alarming, especially since they were issued from the United Nations' platform.

According to the Islamic Republic News Agency, Darzi expressed these concerns in a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres and President of the UN Security Council J©r´me Bonnafont. The letter, dated September 27, was a response to Trump's speech at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly on September 22, where he made the annihilation threat.

Darzi emphasized that these statements are not isolated remarks but part of a continuous pattern of threats from a permanent Security Council member. He highlighted the inappropriateness of using the UN General Assembly as a stage for such threats, given the Assembly's role in promoting peace and international cooperation.

The letter further detailed previous threats made by Trump earlier in the year, including potential attacks on Iranian infrastructure and a declaration that a whole civilization could be wiped out. Darzi asserted that these threats violate the UN Charter's prohibition of force and called for international action to prevent the normalization of such rhetoric.

Iran maintains its right to self-defense and seeks accountability for any aggression, while urging the UN to circulate the letter as an official Security Council document.
