Geneva:Iran's ambassador to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Ali Bahreini, has issued a warning that the destruction and forced displacement experienced in Palestine may be repeated in southern Lebanon. He has called for international accountability regarding the actions of the Israeli regime.
According to the Islamic Republic News Agency, Bahreini addressed the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council, highlighting the serious nature of racial repression faced by Palestinians. He criticized Israel's actions as 'genocidal machinery' that continues through systematic discrimination and apartheid, referencing findings by the International Court of Justice.
Bahreini urged accountability for those participating in these criminal activities and called on the United States and certain European nations to cease their support and protection of Israel.
Regarding southern Lebanon, Bahreini noted a similar pattern of destruction, including the systematic demolition of homes and essential services, as well as hindrances preventing civilians from returning to their areas. He suggested that these actions should be scrutinized under Article 2(c) of the Genocide Convention, which addresses the deliberate imposition of life conditions intended to destroy a group physically.
The Human Rights Council is also evaluating a report on companies associated with Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territories.
