Iranian Foreign Minister Advocates for Regional Security Without Foreign Intervention

Tehran:Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized the importance of regional security being maintained by the countries in West Asia themselves, without the involvement of foreign powers. This statement was made during a specialized gathering organized by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, where the legacy of assassinated senior politician Kamal Kharrazi was honored.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi highlighted Iran's desire for peaceful coexistence with its neighbors and reiterated that peace and security in West Asia should be self-managed by regional countries. He underscored that the policy proposed by the late Kamal Kharrazi remains a fundamental position of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

During the event, which also marked the inauguration of the Shahid Kharrazi Museum and Document Center, Araghchi reflected on Kharrazi's earlier remarks from an Iranian-Arab dialogue in 2025. Kharrazi had stressed that regional prosperity and security depend on the collective efforts of regional countries, free from foreign military presence.

Araghchi further criticized the reliance of some regional countries on foreign military bases, particularly those of the United States, stating that these bases have not brought the intended peace and security. Instead, the presence of such foreign forces has contributed to increasing insecurity in the region.

He also pointed out that the wars waged against Iran since 2025 have demonstrated the ineffectiveness of foreign military involvement in guaranteeing regional security. Araghchi described Israel as the main source of instability, and noted that the recent conflicts have led to a shift towards new perspectives on security in the region.

The Iranian Foreign Minister concluded by acknowledging the significant changes brought about by the ongoing conflict in the region, particularly in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, indicating that future negotiations will address these emerging realities.
