Tehran:Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baqaei, has emphasized the nation's preparedness to confront any potential aggression from the United States, while maintaining an openness to diplomatic engagement. Baqaei's statements underscore Iran's skepticism towards US intentions, as he accuses Washington of prioritizing attacks over diplomacy with the Islamic Republic.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei, in an interview with German broadcaster ARD, expressed distrust towards US leadership, citing their actions as evidence of a strategy focused on attacking Iran rather than pursuing diplomatic solutions. He responded to US President Donald Trump's claims that an attack on Iran would not occur before the midterm elections, affirming that Iran remains vigilant despite these assertions.
Baqaei referenced a past statement from Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, noting that significant diplomatic progress had been made between Iran and the US, yet Washington proceeded with military aggression. This, Baqaei argued, illustrates a lack of goodwill from the US towards a diplomatic resolution.
He also critiqued the European Union's alignment with US policies, particularly in relation to the nuclear issue and sanctions. Baqaei lamented the EU's failure to adopt an independent stance, accusing them of appeasing the US despite the illegality of actions like the breach of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2018.
Addressing security concerns in the Strait of Hormuz, Baqaei highlighted the region's instability due to US and Israeli military activities. He stated that Iran, historically the guardian of the waterway, is justified in taking measures to protect its national security, in line with international law.
Baqaei further addressed the strained Iran-Germany relations, urging Berlin to reconsider its approach and cease aligning with US policies. He recalled Germany's controversial past actions during the Iran-Iraq war and criticized their recent support for US-Israeli conflicts and anti-Iran measures, which have marred Tehran-Berlin relations.
