Tehran: Iranian national Bahman Choubi Asl has been executed for spying for Israel, the Judiciary has announced. Choubi was executed on Monday morning after Iran’s Supreme Court rejected his appeal and upheld the previous ruling sentencing him to death on charges of spying for Israel’s Mossad agency.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Mizan, the Judiciary’s news agency, reported that Bahman Choubi was a main agent of Mossad, who had extensive and deliberate collaboration with the Israeli spy service in the field of databases. He was hanged this morning following due legal process, it added.
The report indicated that Choubi entered Iran’s telecommunications and sensitive projects through his position at a knowledge-based company, where he held a managerial role that granted him extensive access to the country’s key data and governance systems. Mossad recruited Choubi while he was in a Persian Gulf littoral country to attend a specialized database training course. Shortly afterward, a Mossad officer, presenting himself as a representative of a company called ESMI, contacted Choubi by phone and invited him to join their organization.
After accepting the invitation, Choubi received training and specialized courses in several foreign countries. Mossad covered the costs of these programs, including language courses, as well as compensating him for assigned missions and his cooperation. According to his own confessions, Choubi’s mission was to help Mossad gain access to the databases of governing bodies and to disrupt Iran’s data centers, among other objectives.
Mossad officers also tasked Choubi with establishing contacts with companies specializing in electronic equipment, with the aim of accessing Iran’s import processes. Through this, Mossad agents, either directly or indirectly, sold faulty equipment to these companies, ensuring it was used in technical sectors in order to sabotage operations. One such act of sabotage, according to the report, targeted Iran’s nuclear industry.
According to the report citing security agencies, the systems provided to Choubi by Mossad were among the most exclusive tools reserved for their most trusted, high-level agents. Mizan added that, considering the missions he carried out and the extensive support he received, including language and database training courses, 63 trips to nine foreign countries, 95 virtual meetings with Mossad officers, as well as the receipt of espionage devices and secure communication systems, Choubi knowingly cooperated with Mossad.
The report did not disclose when or where Choubi was arrested, nor the length of his cooperation with Mossad prior to his detention.
