Iranian Parliament Speaker Warns Against Foreign Rivalry in Caucasus Region

Tehran:Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has emphasized that the Caucasus region should not become a battleground for geopolitical rivalry among foreign powers.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Ghalibaf made these remarks during a meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan. He highlighted the Persian Gulf's situation as evidence that interference by external powers could lead to instability.

Ghalibaf expressed gratitude to Armenia for its support of Iran amid recent US-Israeli aggression. He stated that Iran's firm policy is to enhance relationships with neighboring countries at both operational and strategic levels, with Armenia being seen as a key partner for expanding ties.

He also expressed optimism about the finalization of a strategic cooperation treaty between Iran and Armenia.

In response, Armenian Foreign Minister Mirzoyan assured that Armenia would not permit its territory to be used for activities against Iran. He emphasized the significance of maintaining the current borders in the region for Armenia.

Mirzoyan characterized Armenia's relationship with Iran as strategic and advocated for increased bilateral cooperation, noting Armenia's interest in developing transportation links with its neighbors.
