Tehran: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has congratulated Major General Ahmad Vahidi and Major General Mostafa Izadi on their appointments as Chief Commander and Deputy Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), respectively, stressing the need to strengthen Iran's deterrence, national cohesion and security readiness.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, in separate messages issued Tuesday, Pezeshkian described the IRGC as a significant institution in defending the Islamic Republic of Iran and safeguarding national security, while emphasizing the importance of strengthening the country's deterrence capabilities, scientific and technological capacity, as well as national cohesion.
Addressing Vahidi, Pezeshkian said his appointment by Leader of the Islamic Revolution and Commander-in-Chief Ayatollah Sayyid Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei reflected his competence, judgment, insight and longstanding efforts in defending Iran. Pezeshkian stated that the IRGC had been crucial in protecting national security throughout the history of the Islamic Revolution.
He added that leading the organization, particularly under current sensitive circumstances, requires experience, courage, foresight, and a precise understanding of national interests and regional conditions. President Pezeshkian expressed confidence that Vahidi's experience in various military and managerial positions, especially in the defense sector, would provide a strong foundation for leading the IRGC in its new phase of missions.
Pezeshkian also highlighted the importance of strengthening deterrence, improving scientific and technological capabilities, utilizing the potential of young people and experts, maintaining readiness to defend Iran, and contributing to national cohesion as essential elements of national power.
Regarding Izadi's appointment as the Deputy Commander of the IRGC, Pezeshkian remarked that his experience and commitment in various military and defense fields represented a valuable asset for the IRGC and a reliable foundation for his new responsibilities. He noted that the deputy commander role requires not only experience and managerial capabilities but also a detailed understanding of defense and security developments and the ability to connect past experiences with future requirements.
Pezeshkian pointed out that defense and security issues are increasingly linked to knowledge, technology, and rapid changes in the surrounding environment. He emphasized the importance of utilizing the capabilities of young specialists, transferring experience between generations, and strengthening scientific and technological capabilities to enhance Iran's defense capabilities for future challenges.
Pezeshkian expressed hope that Izadi would leverage the IRGC's capabilities to strengthen its readiness, cohesion, and effectiveness, thereby contributing to the protection of Iran's security and interests.
