Tehran: Ayatollah Seyyed Mousa Shobeiri Zanjani, a prominent Shia scholar and senior source of emulation, has passed away, his office announced in a statement.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the statement released early on Monday noted that the respected cleric devoted his life to deep scholarship, sustained academic efforts, and the preservation and advancement of authentic Islamic jurisprudence. His contributions to the promotion of Islamic teachings and the safeguarding of the foundations of Shiism were also emphasized.

The statement further highlighted Ayatollah Zanjani's commitment to serving the Iranian nation with sincerity and concern. It offered condolences over his death to Imam Mahdi, the seminaries, the people of Iran, and followers of religious authority around the world. Details of the funeral and burial ceremonies will be announced at a later date.
