Tehran: Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has expressed Iran's willingness to engage in nuclear negotiations, adhering to previous agreements. However, he emphasized that the level of cooperation from Iran will depend on the commitment demonstrated by other parties involved in the negotiations. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi made these remarks after a meeting with Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), in Tehran. The foreign minister described the discussions with Grossi as constructive, highlighting Iran's readiness to continue its cooperation with the IAEA, conditional on reciprocal commitment from the other parties. "We engaged in constructive discussions, clarifying our cooperation path with the agency for the upcoming year, which is crucial for the Iranian nuclear issue," he stated. Araghchi also reiterated that while Iran has maintained its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in good faith, the other side had previously withdrawn from the agreement. He noted that the negotiations aimed to establish a new strategy to reduce tensions with the agency and other involved parties. The hope is that these recent discussions will help ease tensions and lead to a reasonable solution before the situation escalates further. In addressing whether the joint statement issued during Grossi's visit on March 4, 2023, remains unchanged or if new understandings have been introduced, the foreign minister confirmed that current cooperation is based on agreements made during the visit, taking into account previous agreements. The primary direction of collaboration will be guided by the IAEA and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, focusing on technical steps and political consensus to initiate a new path. Responding to IRNA, Araghchi emphasized negotiation as the only viable solution to existing problems, especially in light of the regional and global context, including Donald Trump's victory in the recent US presidential election. He remarked that a confrontational approach has been tried before without positive outcomes and that cooperation should be the way forward. Grossi arrived in Tehran on Wednesday evening and was received by Behrouz Kamalvandi, the Spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI). Following his meeting with Grossi, Araghchi reiterated Iran's commitment to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and ongoing cooperation with the IAEA on social media platform X. He stated, "As a committed member of the NPT, we continue our full cooperation with the IAEA. Differences can be resolved through cooperation and dialogue. We agreed to proceed with courage and goodwill." Araghchi also mentioned that Iran has never abandoned the negotiating table concerning its peaceful nuclear program, indicating Tehran's readiness to resolve outstanding issues. He concluded by stating, "The ball is in the EU/E3 court," while asserting that Iran is "NOT ready to negotiate under pressure and intimidation."
