The Hague:Iran's ambassador to the Netherlands and representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has reported significant damage to Iran's chemical industries due to US military attacks. This damage has affected 111 petrochemical and pharmaceutical facilities, subsequently disrupting supply chains and impacting the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the statement was made by Hadi Farajvand during the 113th session of the OPCW Executive Council. He specified that the US attacks damaged 60 petrochemical complexes, 44 pharmaceutical factories, and seven pharmaceutical facilities in Iran.
Farajvand emphasized that the disruption to Iran's chemical and pharmaceutical industries has interfered with the country's obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention. He highlighted the importance of protecting chemical facilities from armed conflicts to maintain the integrity of the Convention and support peaceful chemical activities and international cooperation.
He also expressed concerns that the deliberate US attacks on these facilities could undermine several articles of the Chemical Weapons Convention and its objectives. The 113th session of the OPCW Executive Council convened in The Hague and will continue until October 9.
