Tehran: Gelareh Nazemi has announced her retirement from futsal refereeing in a post on social media. Nazemi, Iran's first female international futsal referee, bid farewell to refereeing in a post on her Instagram page.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Nazemi was selected as an international referee in 2014. She officiated at the 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Lithuania, becoming the first Iranian female referee to officiate at a men's World Cup tournament.

Her career highlights include officiating at the 2019 Men's Futsal Club World Cup in Thailand and the inaugural edition of the Women's Futsal European Championship in Portugal in 2019. In 2018, Nazemi was named among the top 10 futsal referees in the world, male and female. She was also nominated for the IFFHS Women's World Best Referee award.
