Tehran: First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref has articulated that Iran’s diplomatic strategy is focused on expanding relations with neighboring and regional countries, emphasizing a ‘partnership’ approach in this pursuit. During a meeting on Afghanistan affairs coordination in Tehran, Aref highlighted the importance of regional mechanisms where Iran plays a pivotal role or has been a founding member, noting that these have been strengthened under the current administration.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Aref elaborated on Iran’s approach to relations with its neighbors, which is rooted in ‘partnership.’ He mentioned that Iran is keen on sharing the achievements of the Islamic Revolution, particularly in technical, industrial, and service sectors, with neighboring nations. This approach also aims to address Iran’s own needs through these partnerships.
Aref underscored the necessity of strengthening relations between the private sectors of Iran and Afghanistan. He urged the Ministry of Interior to develop a comprehensive program for Afghan immigrants, with a particular focus on investors. Additionally, he called for the Joint Cooperation Commission and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to prepare a detailed plan for the development of Iran-Afghanistan cooperation as soon as possible.
He reiterated that enhancing comprehensive relations could help eliminate obstacles and foster mutual understanding between the two countries. Furthermore, Aref identified the strengthening of cultural, scientific, technological, and educational ties with Afghanistan as a key issue and emphasized the transition from scientific and technological cooperation to educational and cultural collaboration.
Moreover, Aref stressed the importance of enhancing industrial, mining, and agricultural relations, as well as prioritizing the construction of railway lines to boost bilateral relations. He noted that Iran’s geographical location on significant regional corridors could facilitate access to other parts of the world and open waterways.
Addressing the critical issue of water rights in eastern Iran, Aref stated that this should be pursued alongside other areas of cooperation with Afghanistan.
