Tokyo: The Iranian woman para-taekwondo practitioner, Maryam Khodabandeh, has won colorful medals at the 25th Summer Deaflympics Tokyo 2025 in Tokyo, Japan. Khodabandeh won a silver medal in the individual poomsae category and a bronze in the mixed team event at the ongoing 2025 Tokyo Deaflympics.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Khodabandeh defeated competitors from Turkiye, Kazakhstan, and Japan to reach the finals. In the final match, Khodabandeh lost to her South Korean opponent, scoring 8.383 points. Additionally, she earned a bronze medal in the mixed poomsae category, showcasing a powerful and synchronized performance. This achievement adds to her impressive record of six medals in her fourth appearance at the Deaflympics.
Over 3,000 athletes from more than 70 countries are competing for medals in 21 sports. The 25th edition of the Deaflympics is being held in Tokyo, Japan, from November 15 to 26, 2025. This edition commemorates 101 years since the inaugural Summer Deaflympics, which took place in Paris in 1924. In the previous edition held in Caxias do Sul, Brazil, Ukraine topped the medal table, followed by the USA and the Republic of Korea in second and third place, respectively.
