Iran’s U.N. Envoy Accuses Israel of Aggressive Acts Against Iran

New York: Iran’s Envoy to the United Nations, Sa’eed Iravani, has accused Israel of aggressive acts against Iran, describing them as violations of international law. In a statement to reporters, Iravani highlighted the ongoing Israeli attacks, which he claims have crossed all red lines.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Iravani detailed the alleged Israeli actions, including targeting a peaceful nuclear facility under full IAEA safeguards, which he described as a dangerous act posing a risk of radioactive release. He refuted Israel’s claims of ‘surgical’ strikes, asserting that the attacks were indiscriminate and targeted civilian infrastructure, resulting in numerous casualties and destruction.

Iravani claimed that Israel deliberately struck densely populated areas in major Iranian cities, leading to significant civilian casualties, including women and children. He also accused Israel of targeting vital infrastructure, such as water storage, fuel depots, and hospitals, labeling these actions as war crimes.

He further alleged that Israel targeted Iran’s news agency during a live broadcast, calling it a direct assault on press freedom and a war crime. Iravani stressed Iran’s right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, emphasizing that Iran’s response was defensive and proportionate, aimed only at military and economic assets linked to the aggression.

Iravani also accused the United States of supporting Israeli actions through weapons, intelligence, and political backing, holding the U.S. partly responsible for the attacks. He criticized the timing of the aggression, coinciding with the resumption of nuclear negotiations, and accused Israel of attempting to sabotage diplomacy.

Iran, according to Iravani, has not attacked Israel and does not seek war, but will defend its sovereignty. He warned that any country aiding Israel would bear legal responsibility for the consequences. Iran has called for urgent action from the UN Security Council, urging them to condemn the aggression and take steps to prevent further acts.

Iravani thanked supportive members of the Security Council and regional partners for their stance. He emphasized Iran’s commitment to self-defense within international law and called on the Council to act to prevent further aggression, highlighting Israel’s possession of nuclear weapons and its history of regional conflicts.
