Iran’s UN Envoy Calls for Permanent End to War and Lifting of Blockade in Strait of Hormuz

New york: Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, has declared that the resolution to the ongoing crisis in the Strait of Hormuz lies in the permanent cessation of war, removal of the maritime blockade, and restoration of normal maritime passage.According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Iravani addressed a United Nations Security Council stakeout, criticizing a draft resolution jointly proposed by the United States and Bahrain. He argued that the resolution seeks to legitimize unlawful actions by the US against Iran under the guise of protecting freedom of navigation. Iravani claimed that the crisis is rooted in what he described as an unlawful war initiated by the United States and Israel against Iran.Iravani further stated that the draft resolution presented by the US and Bahrain misrepresents the situation by attributing unverified violations to Iran, such as attacks on vessels and sea mine placements. He emphasized that these allegations serve politic al objectives and ignore the US-imposed maritime blockade, which he argued breaches international law and contributes to regional instability. The Iranian envoy highlighted that the draft resolution selectively applies international law while disregarding the US's own violations. He asserted that Iran's actions are consistent with international law, defending its right as a coastal state to safeguard its sovereignty and security.Iravani urged Security Council members not to allow the body to be used for political purposes or to legitimize unilateral actions by the United States. He called on member states to reject the draft resolution and support Iran's position for peace and stability in the Persian Gulf, advocating for fair treatment in accordance with international law.
