Tehran: Iraq will not allow its territory to be used as a launching pad for attacks against neighboring countries or to undermine regional security, spokesman for the commander-in-chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, Sabah Al-Numan, says. Speaking to the Iraqi News Agency (INA) on Saturday, Al-Numan said Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ali Faleh Al-Zaydi issued several firm directives after recent security incidents.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Al-Numan stated that the measures included forming a high-level investigative committee, dismissing the police chief of Maysan Governorate, and transferring the directors of security agencies in the province for investigation. The directives also emphasized the need for intensified measures to control borders and border crossings, aiming to prevent any activity from Iraqi territory that could threaten the security of Iraqi provinces or neighboring countries.

Al-Numan affirmed the government's stance by stating, "The Iraqi government will never allow Iraqi territory to be used as a launching pad for attacks against any neighboring country or to harm regional security." He further mentioned that Iraqi security and intelligence agencies were continuing operations to pursue and arrest those involved in the recent incidents and refer them to the judiciary.

The decision follows Iraq's announcement of the dismissal of the commander of Maysan Operations after it was established that attacks targeting Saudi Arabia had been launched from a location in the southern Iraqi governorate.
