Tehran: The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has announced that it launched an initial retaliatory operation against a US attack, targeting 85 points of key American military facilities in the West Asia region.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the IRGC public relations office issued a statement early Wednesday indicating that the assault was a response to a violation of the Iran-US memorandum of understanding. The Iranian forces conducted these attacks following what they described as a breach by the United States.

The statement highlighted that the United States violated the ceasefire and the Islamabad understanding by carrying out an air attack in the early hours of Wednesday on several coastal bases and non-military stations in the coastal areas of Hormozgan province and Mahshahr. This prompted the IRGC's naval and aerospace forces to respond with a coordinated missile-and-drone strike targeting 85 locations linked to significant US military installations, including Bahrain's Salman Port, the Fifth Naval District, and the Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait.

Moreover, the IRGC reported the downing of an enemy MQ-9 drone that had attempted to interfere with their operation. IRGC spokesperson Brigadier General Hossein Mobini confirmed that a US MQ-9 drone was brought down over the skies of Khoromoj in Bushehr province. He stated that the aircraft was hit by IRGC air defense fire following the US air incursion at dawn.
