Tehran: The Public Relations Department of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) in West Azarbaijan Province has described the assassination of Sunni Kurdish cleric Mamosta Mohammad Nezhati by Kurdish separatist groups as the enemy's attempt to create division among Muslims.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the martyrdom of Mamosta Mohammad Nezhati, following a terrorist and brutal crime by American-Zionist separatist groups, has caused sorrow among the religious community and people of West Azarbaijan Province, the IRGC said in a statement on Wednesday.

This crime is not merely the targeting of a prominent figure, but also a desperate attempt to create rifts among Muslims, to undermine Shia-Sunni unity, and to disrupt security and peace in society, it added.

Since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, West Azarbaijan Province has always faced such incidents; however, the unity between Shia and Sunni Muslims has not been undermined in the slightest, and this has certainly strengthened the bond between the followers of these two sects, it noted.
