IRGC Highlights Khorramshahr Liberation as a Symbol of Resistance

Tehran: The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has commemorated the 43rd anniversary of the liberation of Khorramshahr, underscoring its significance as a symbol of Iranian resistance against foreign aggression. The event is remembered for its pivotal role in uniting the Iranian people and armed forces against external threats.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the IRGC issued a statement on Saturday via its news website, Sepah News, describing the 1982 liberation of Khorramshahr from Iraq's former Baath regime as a historical epic. The statement emphasized the operation as a reflection of the Iranian people's strength and unity in the face of aggression from what it termed as 'arrogant powers' and 'the Baath enemy'. It further noted the operation's ongoing relevance, serving as a lesson for 'new adversaries', including Israel.

The IRGC highlighted that the liberation of Khorramshahr was more than just a military victory. It was portrayed as a manifestation of national identity and power, with ideological significance that extends towards the broader goal of liberating Palestine. The organization called upon Iranian youth to draw inspiration from this historic event to counter modern hybrid warfare tactics used by adversaries.

The statement concluded with a warning to Iran's adversaries, promising a decisive response in the event of any aggression. The IRGC reiterated its commitment to defending the nation's sovereignty and interests against any form of threat.

On May 24, 1982, the Iranian armed forces successfully liberated the city of Khorramshahr in Khuzestan Province. This victory was achieved through a large-scale military operation known as Beit al-Moqaddas during the eight-year conflict with Iraq's former Baath regime in the 1980s.
