IRGC Navy Blames US for Maritime Tensions Following Tanker Fire

Abu Dhabi:First paragraph of the news story.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy has attributed the escalation of tensions in regional shipping routes to the US military. This follows a recent incident involving a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier, which caught fire while attempting to traverse an unauthorized route south of the Strait of Hormuz.

The IRGC Navy's statement indicated that the tanker sustained significant damage to its engine room and propulsion system due to the blaze. The IRGC accused the US of instigating such incidents by meddling in regional affairs, deceiving shipping and insurance companies, and offering large bribes.

The IRGC emphasized its commitment to maintaining control over the Strait of Hormuz as directed by Ayatollah Sayyid Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei and in accordance with the Iranian people's demands for sovereignty. They asserted that they would not allow aggressive militaries in the area and warned that further American interventions could lead to more such incidents.

The statement also cautioned companies that they could face sanctions and other penalties if their vessels are found to be in violation due to US misinformation. The IRGC declared that punitive actions would not be confined to the Strait of Hormuz but would extend to any vessel following unauthorized routes in the region.
