Isfahan: The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) has revealed that the nuclear fuel production plant in Isfahan was the initial target of military assaults by the United States and Israel during their aggressive campaigns against the Islamic Republic over the past year. Mohammad Eslami, speaking at a ceremony commemorating Doctors' Day in the nuclear industry, stated that the plant is responsible for producing the fuel necessary for the Tehran Research Reactor.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Eslami detailed that the Tehran reactor is primarily utilized for research and the production of radiopharmaceuticals. He also noted that a facility dedicated to the production of radiopharmaceuticals was among those targeted in the air raids.

Eslami highlighted the bombing of an oxygen-18 production line at the Khondab complex, emphasizing its significance for PET scans. The material, produced domestically, supports the country's PET scan services, which are critical for medical diagnostics.

Eslami condemned the assaults as a blatant demonstration of the aggressors' ideology, asserting that the targets were scientific activities with products beneficial to the public. He reported that products from the AEOI serve 1.5 million patients or individuals seeking medical diagnostics annually, with several countries now importing Iran's nuclear-industry products.

The US and Israel have initiated two unprovoked wars against Iran since June 2025, resulting in the deaths of thousands of civilians.
