Baku: Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf announced that the Islamabad memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Iran and the United States signifies a 'declaration of US defeat,' attributing its success to the resilience and strength of the Iranian nation. Addressing the 20th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) in Baku, Azerbaijan, Ghalibaf emphasized that the agreement was not a result of coercion but a testament to the power of dialogue when the other party recognizes and respects a nation's rights.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Ghalibaf articulated that the summit follows a significant act of aggression against Iran by the United States and the Zionist regime. He highlighted the '40-day imposed war' as a criminal act leading to the martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, numerous senior officials, and over 3,000 Iranian citizens, predominantly women and children. The conflict also resulted in more than 30,000 injuries and extensive damage to Iran's infrastructure.
Ghalibaf credited the steadfastness of Iran's Armed Forces and the people's resistance for imposing heavy costs on the United States and the 'fake Israeli regime.' He asserted that this resistance disillusioned the enemy's objectives, leading to their surrender both militarily and diplomatically. The speaker argued that the conflict was not just a military confrontation but an attempt to alter the region's strategic balance through pressure and psychological warfare.
The planners of the aggression, according to Ghalibaf, anticipated that military pressure and other hostile actions could coerce Iran into submission. However, the Iranian nation defied these expectations, showcasing the end of an era where external powers could impose their will on independent nations.
Ghalibaf expressed Iran's vision for the region's future, advocating for interaction, coexistence, and indigenous security over confrontation and imported security. He underscored Iran's readiness to collaborate with Islamic countries on mutual respect and shared interests, supporting initiatives for joint economic and security mechanisms.
Concluding his address, Ghalibaf extended gratitude to Azerbaijan and the PUIC secretariat for hosting the conference and fostering dialogue among Muslim nations. The 20th PUIC conference, themed 'Promoting Sustainable and Inclusive Economic Development in OIC Member States through Parliamentary Cooperation,' also entails Ghalibaf's meetings with various parliamentary delegations and officials from Islamic nations.
