Tehran: President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized the importance of strengthening convergence among Muslim countries as a crucial step towards establishing security, peace, and stability in the region. He called for increased unity and cooperation among Islamic states during a meeting with Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council President Faiq Zidan and his delegation in Tehran.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Pezeshkian highlighted the region's abundant resources, which have attracted the attention of external powers seeking to exploit its wealth by inciting divisions, wars, and conflicts. He stressed the need for Muslim countries to enhance cultural, commercial, social, political, and economic ties, addressing misunderstandings to lay the groundwork for greater regional security.

Pezeshkian proposed the formation of an alliance among Muslim countries to bolster regional stability and security. He suggested that increased unity could facilitate the withdrawal of the United States from the region, enabling local governments to establish a sustainable, locally driven model of stability.

Zidan, on the other hand, commended Iran's efforts in combating terrorism in the region. He expressed that converting joint security, economic, social, and cultural initiatives into practical measures could yield substantial benefits for regional development. Zidan emphasized that stronger political and security relations could enhance regional stability and contain Israel, underscoring Iran's pivotal role in this endeavor.

Furthermore, Zidan expressed Iraq's interest in pursuing special economic cooperation with Iran, stating that Baghdad was eager to deepen economic ties with Tehran.
