Gaza city: Hazem Qassem, spokesperson for the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, has accused the Israeli regime of violating the Gaza ceasefire agreement, which was initiated on Friday.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Qassem claimed that Israeli soldiers have killed civilians in the Shuja’iyya neighborhood of Gaza City and Rafah. He urged mediators to ensure that the regime adheres to its commitments under the agreement.
News reports have highlighted that Israeli forces targeted the Shuja’iyya neighborhood with artillery on Wednesday. Al Jazeera’s correspondent corroborated these claims, reporting tank attacks by Israeli forces in eastern Gaza. Further violations include reports of Israeli naval vessels firing at fishermen off the coast of the al-Shati refugee camp in northern Gaza, actions that contradict the ceasefire agreement’s stipulations to halt such attacks.
Qassem emphasized that the resistance movement remains committed to the ceasefire and is actively working on terms concerning the return of the bodies of captured Israeli soldiers held by Hamas’s military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades. Meanwhile, Mohammed al-Hindi, the deputy secretary-general of the Islamic Jihad Movement, mentioned that the regime’s attempts to obstruct the agreement were anticipated. He criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for failing to secure a comprehensive victory and made it clear that there will be no acceptance of an international representative managing Gaza’s affairs.
