Journalists’ Role in Upholding Truth and Democracy Highlighted by Administration Spokesperson

Tehran: Fatemeh Mohajerani, the administration spokesperson, has honored media personnel on the occasion of National Journalists’ Day, emphasizing the significant role journalists play in conveying truth and amplifying people’s voices. This day holds particular importance in Iran as it commemorates the memory of martyr Mahmoud Saremi, an IRNA journalist who sacrificed his life in pursuit of truth.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Mohajerani expressed her thoughts in a memo published in ‘Iran Newspaper’ on Saturday. National Journalists’ Day, celebrated on August 8, serves as a poignant reminder of the courage journalists exhibit and the essential responsibilities they uphold: conveying truth, amplifying public voices, and fostering awareness.

Mohajerani emphasized that journalism transcends a mere profession, representing a profound ethical, social, and national commitment. She described journalists as the eyes and ears of society, whose reporting on realities aids in guiding decision-making.

She further highlighted the indispensable role of media professionals in maintaining democracy, ensuring public opinion is recognized, and promoting transparency. Without free and accountable journalism, calls for transparency would remain hollow, she asserted.

Addressing regional challenges and media campaigns against the Islamic Republic, Mohajerani noted the increasing importance of journalists in countering misinformation and biased narratives through ethical reporting.

Mohajerani also expressed gratitude to journalists who perform their duties courageously, often under challenging circumstances. She acknowledged President Masoud Pezeshkian’s administration’s commitment to fostering a safe and free media environment, ensuring equal information access, and opposing illegal pressures, viewing journalists as partners in governance.

In conclusion, she stressed that journalists have the power to bridge divides and promote national unity through fair reporting and constructive synergy.
