Larijani: Indirect Talks with Washington Limited to Nuclear Program

Tehran: Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ali Larijani, in an interview with Al Jazeera, emphasized that indirect negotiations with Washington are ongoing and that no specific proposal has yet been received from the United States.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Larijani stated in his interview that Tehran has not received any specific proposal from the US so far, and what took place in Muscat, Oman, was merely an exchange of messages. He noted that regional countries are striving for the success of these talks, and the position of the Islamic Republic of Iran toward the path of negotiation is positive.

Larijani expressed that the United States has reached the conclusion that it must adopt an approach toward Iran that differs from the military option. He described Washington's entry into the negotiation process as a sign of moving toward a "rational path." He clarified that no negotiations are underway regarding any subject other than the nuclear program, emphasizing common ground with the United States on the absence of nuclear weapons.

Furthermore, Larijani accused the Zionist regime of trying to disrupt the negotiations process, stating that Israel is seeking an excuse to ignite war, targeting not only Iran but also the stability of the entire region. He rejected any discussion about "zero enrichment," explaining that Iran requires enrichment for the energy sector and the production of medicine. Larijani warned that if the United States attacks Iran, they will target US military bases in the region.

In his remarks, Larijani also evaluated Qatar's role in the mediation process as positive and highlighted that the Islamic Republic of Iran did not receive nuclear technology from any external sources, but rather achieved it through domestic capabilities.
