Leaked Signal Chat Further Exposes U.S. Government’s Worldview: Foreign Minister

Tehran: Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi says leaked private conversations among top officials from the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump further reveal the worldview of the U.S. government and provide yet another reason for Iran to view Washington's recent political outreach to Iran with great skepticism. 'People around the globe - including Americans - now see how U.S. officials look at world affairs,' Araqchi wrote on his X account, reacting to the publication of leaked discussions among Trump's top aides, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, about strike plans against Yemen.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, on Wednesday, The Atlantic published the content of the group chat on the Signal messaging app discussing weapons packages, targets, and timing. Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor-in-chief of the magazine, had been inadvertently added to the group. 'Some (people) highlight severe incompetence and, more importantly, total disregard for human life in (the U.S.) decision making,' Araqchi said.

The top diplomat further commented, 'As for Iran, we see perhaps another reason to take the recent political overtures with a huge grain of salt.' He indirectly referred to Trump's February statement expressing his willingness to talk to the Islamic Republic, despite his hostile 'maximum pressure' campaign against Iran.

On March 12, Trump also sent a letter to Iran via an emissary from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), proposing the opening of negotiations into a deal. However, Iranian officials have repeatedly stated that direct talks are impossible amid U.S. threats and continued pressure.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has reiterated that Iran will not negotiate with the United States as Tehran does not trust Washington to adhere to any contractual obligations.
