Tehran: Mauritania's Ambassador to Tehran, Sidi Mohamed Mohamed Radhi, has rejected what he described as a Western media campaign against Iran, asserting that the country is among the safest places globally.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Mohamed Radhi expressed in an exclusive interview conducted on the sidelines of the 2025 Kish Expo International Exhibition that his personal experience in Iran defies the negative portrayals often depicted in Western media. The ambassador shared that he feels so secure in Iran that he does not feel the need for bodyguards and routinely makes daily purchases alone.
Mohamed Radhi admitted that his perception of Iran was initially shaped by Western media reports before he commenced his diplomatic mission in the Islamic Republic. However, his firsthand experiences have led him to conclude that Iran is, in fact, very safe.
The ambassador further highlighted Mauritania's eagerness to engage in economic and cultural exchanges with Iran, noting ongoing efforts to enhance cooperation between the two nations. He praised Iran's resilience and progress despite facing Western-imposed sanctions, and emphasized Mauritania's interest in benefiting from Iranian industrial knowledge and expertise.
Drawing comparisons with European countries, based on his visits and diplomatic tenure in Spain, Mohamed Radhi noted that Iran's development surpasses that of some European nations. He pointed out that Iranians conduct all financial transactions using debit cards or cellphones, a level of technological adoption that even some European countries have not achieved.
Mohamed Radhi is the first ambassador from Mauritania to Iran, marking a step up from the previous arrangement where the African nation was represented by a charge d'affaires in the Islamic Republic.
