Tehran Dismisses European Parliament Resolution as Baseless

Tehran: The Director General of the Iranian Foreign Ministry's Human Rights and Women's Affairs Department has stated that the recent resolution of the European Parliament against the Islamic Republic lacks legal foundation and reflects a politicized and interfering stance.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Marzieh Afkham made these remarks on Saturday, following the European Parliament's resolution criticizing Iran for what it described as systematic repression of human rights, including women's rights. She condemned the resolution as irresponsible, emphasizing that Iran's judiciary operates independently and professionally, with judicial proceedings conducted lawfully and justly.

The Islamic Republic firmly rejects any foreign interference in its judicial process, viewing it as a violation of international law principles, Afkham asserted. She further described the European Parliament's position on the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as unwarranted, emphasizing the IRGC's legitimacy and critical role in safeguarding Iran's security against aggression and terrorism.

Afkham cautioned that any disrespect towards the IRGC would elicit a strong response from the Islamic Republic. She urged the European Parliament to learn from past errors, uphold international commitments, and contribute positively to peace, stability, and human rights, rather than supporting terrorist groups, which she argued equates to inciting violence and infringing on fundamental human rights.
