Tehran: The women's Alysh wrestling (belt wrestling) championships have concluded in the capital, with the Mazandaran team from northern Iran claiming the team title. The national women's Alysh wrestling competitions took place at Tehran's Shohada-ye Haftom-e Tir Stadium on Friday, July 31, 2026.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the Mazandaran team dominated the championship with a total of 97 points, securing the top position in the team rankings. The team from Alborz followed in second place with 67 points, while the host city team, Tehran, finished in third place with 65 points.
The competition witnessed participation from across the country, showcasing the strength and skills of female wrestlers. Khorasan Razavi secured the fourth position with 54 points, followed by Sistan and Baluchestan with 44 points. Other teams in the rankings included Fars with 40 points, Ardabil with 34 points, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari with 33 points, Semnan with 31 points, and Zanjan with 30 points.
The successful conclusion of the championships highlights the growing interest and development of women's wrestling in Iran. The event provided a platform for athletes to demonstrate their prowess and contribute to the promotion of Alysh wrestling in the region.
