New Zealand Removes High Commissioner to Britain for Anti-Trump Comments

Moscow: New Zealand's high commissioner to the United Kingdom has lost his job after he publicly made remarks complaining the policies of U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, at a public Chatham House event in London, where Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen was speaking on how to keep the peace with Russia, Phil Goff referred to comments by Winston Churchill in 1938 after Germany's annexation of part of Czechoslovakia. 'He turned to [prime minister Neville] Chamberlain, he said, 'You had the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, yet you will have war',' Goff said.

Goff further questioned President Trump's understanding of history by referencing Trump's decision to restore the bust of Churchill to the Oval Office. Goff's inquiry, 'But do you think he really understands history?' elicited laughter from the audience.

New Zealand's Foreign Minister Winston Peters, speaking to the media on Thursday, expressed that Goff's comments were 'disappointing' and made the envoy's position 'untenable.'
