Over 1,140 Iranian Scholars Recognized Among World’s Top 1% Most-Cited Researchers

Tehran: The Islamic World Science Citation (ISC) Institute has announced the inclusion of 1,142 Iranian scholars in the list of the world’s top 1 percent most-cited researchers.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the data was compiled and released by the ISC based on the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) database from Clarivate’s Web of Science. The ESI updates its list of Highly Cited Researchers every two months, focusing on citation data from the past decade.

The ‘Highly Cited Researcher’ status is a globally acknowledged marker of scientific impact. The selection process relies exclusively on the number of citations a researcher receives within their field, recognizing those in the top 1% by citations for their significant influence and peer acknowledgment.

The ISC report underscores the scope of Iran’s scientific proficiency, noting the presence of highly-cited researchers in 22 different subject areas spanning the sciences and social sciences. The findings emerged from the analysis of six consecutive bimonthly ESI lists, covering the period between November 2024 and September 2025.
