Tehran: Pakistan will continue bilateral trade with Iran in accordance with international law and is not bound by unilateral sanctions imposed on Tehran, Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi has said.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, speaking at his weekly press briefing in Islamabad on Thursday and while responding to a question by IRNA, Andrabi said Pakistan has consistently rejected unilateral measures and does not accept unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States. He emphasized that such sanctions have negative consequences and are not considered consistent with international law.

The Pakistani official described economic pressure on Iran as part of the deadlock between Tehran and Washington, saying the issues should be addressed through diplomacy and dialogue. Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, Andrabi expressed confidence that regional efforts would soon produce constructive results, while noting that resolving the issue depends on Iran and the United States.

Asked about Iran potentially joining the trilateral Pakistan-Saudi Arabia-Turkey pact, he said the arrangement remains open to all countries and Pakistan was not aware of any country seeking membership. On Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir's visit to Tehran this week, Andrabi said the talks with senior Iranian officials were constructive and reflected Islamabad's commitment to helping resolve the crisis.

He rejected media speculation that Munir had visited Iran as an envoy of the US president, stressing that the trip was conducted within the framework of bilateral relations and peace diplomacy.
