Islamabad: Pakistani Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir is set to visit Tehran, the capital of Iran, on Monday, as announced by Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baqaei. This announcement was reported on Sunday by Anadolu Ajansi (AA), citing a state news agency.

According to Nam News Network, Munir's visit, accompanied by a delegation, aims to enhance bilateral cooperation and build upon Pakistan's ongoing efforts to strengthen peace and security in the region. During his trip, Munir is scheduled to engage in discussions with senior Iranian officials, as stated by Baqaei and reported by the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

Pakistan has played a pivotal role as a mediator between Iran and the United States throughout the conflict, maintaining close ties with both nations. On June 17, the US and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding and embarked on negotiations toward a final agreement. However, these talks encountered obstacles due to disagreements over security guarantees and the freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global energy supplies and trade.

Between July 8 and July 24, tensions escalated as the US and Iran exchanged military strikes. The US launched attacks on targets inside Iran, prompting Tehran to respond by striking US military facilities and equipment in several Arab countries, including Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait.
