Pakistani Delegation to Attend Funeral of Iran’s Martyred Leader: PM Sharif

Islamabad: Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized that a Pakistani delegation will take part in the funeral ceremony of the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. Speaking at the open session of the National Assembly in Islamabad, Sharif announced that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had invited him to attend the funeral ceremony of the late Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. He added, 'Iran is not only a friendly country but our brotherly nation and neighbor. Undoubtedly, a Pakistani delegation will attend the funeral ceremony of the martyred leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution between July 3 and 4.'

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, a statement from the Commemoration Committee for the Bloody Ascension of the Martyred Militant Imam detailed that public farewell ceremonies will be held July 4-5 at Tehran's Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla. The dates correspond to the 13th and 14th of Tir in the Persian calendar, or the 19th and 20th of the lunar month of Muharram.

A funeral procession is scheduled in Tehran on July 6, followed by a second procession on July 7 in the holy city of Qom, the committee said. The final funeral ritual will take place on July 9 in the holy city of Mashhad, coinciding with the eve of the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Sajjad (AS), also known as Zayn al-Abidin, the fourth Shia imam and a great-grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The late leader will be laid to rest at the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS), the eighth Shia Imam, in Mashhad.
