Karachi: Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan (JIP) Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has called on leaders of Islamic countries to intervene urgently in response to the ongoing violence in the Gaza Strip. In a letter addressed to the heads of state of Muslim-majority nations, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, Naeem ur Rehman appealed for immediate action to cease the daily loss of life in the region. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the letter emphasized the urgent need for collective action by Muslim nations to address what Naeem ur Rehman described as a catastrophic humanitarian crisis. He expressed deep concern over the indiscriminate killing of innocent civilians, including women and children, in Gaza. The letter criticized the global community's silence and inaction in response to the ongoing atrocities. Naeem ur Rehman highlighted the deliberate targeting of hospitals, journalists, schools, and shelters, which are protected under international law. He pointed out the disproportionate availability of m odern weaponry to Israel, which has exacerbated the devastation in Gaza. The letter comes in the wake of renewed military strikes by Israel in Gaza on March 18, which marked the end of a ceasefire agreement with Hamas. The conflict has resulted in the death of over 1,000 Palestinians, raising the total death toll since early October 2023 to more than 50,600. Israel's actions have also included blocking the entry of essential supplies such as food, fuel, and humanitarian aid into Gaza amidst its continued attacks.
