Tehran: President Masoud Pezeshkian says the provisions of the understanding between Iran and the United States are largely in the interests of the Iranian people, adding that negotiations between the two sides will help Iran access its resources and make decisions on how they are used.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Pezeshkian made the remarks at a seminar in Tehran on monetary and banking policies, coinciding with the start of talks between Iranian and US delegations in Switzerland. The discussions began four days after Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump electronically signed a memorandum of understanding, bringing an end to the conflict initiated by the US and Israel against Iran in late February.

The Iranian delegation, led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, emphasized that the talks in Switzerland are focused on ensuring the implementation of the MoU. This agreement calls for the cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon. It allows Iran and the US to hold discussions within a 60-day period, extendable by mutual consent, to address the standoff over Iran's nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

Pezeshkian stated that Iran has exported more than 16 million barrels of oil recently, highlighting the positive outcomes of the talks. He expressed optimism that the negotiations would lead to the unfreezing of $6 billion held in Qatar, which will be returned to Iran. The presence of the Governor of the Central Bank of Iran, Abdolnasser Hemmati, in Switzerland is aimed at determining the allocation of these resources.

Addressing concerns about nuclear weapons, Pezeshkian reiterated that Iran will never pursue the production of a nuclear bomb, referencing a religious decree by the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, which prohibits nuclear weapons.

Pezeshkian also noted that Israel is dissatisfied with the ongoing negotiations between Iran and the US, as it seeks to prolong conflict in the region. He emphasized the importance of national unity and warned against internal divisions, which could be exploited by adversaries to achieve their goals.
