Accra:President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized the universal responsibility to protect the planet, highlighting that environmental damage transcends national and geographical boundaries, affecting everyone globally.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Pezeshkian's remarks came after his return from Armenia, where he attended the Summit of the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity. This marked his second international trip in recent days, following a visit to Turkmenistan focused on issues like the depletion of the Caspian Sea, water pollution, and biodiversity loss.
Pezeshkian stressed that humans are merely temporary occupants of Earth, and failure to preserve it for future generations will lead to significant problems. He noted the critical role of every living organism in maintaining the cycle of life, warning that its disruption poses a danger to human existence.
He also highlighted discussions on global biodiversity and environmental protection solutions during meetings in Armenia, which included participation from the UN Secretary-General. Pezeshkian criticized wars and conflicts for their destructive impact on the environment, arguing that those professing civilization and human rights often act contrary to these ideals.
He urged a collective effort to increase global awareness of environmental issues, stressing that environmental destruction knows no borders or distinctions between nationalities, and its repercussions are universal.
